Peugeot 5008 SUV Review
With February’s launch of the next generation 5008, Peugeot have made a very strong statement that their foray into the SUV market is serious. Based upon the hugely popular, European Car of the Year 2017, the 3008, but with an additional row of seats, the 5008 is a stunning seven seater SUV, oozing with style, and with the family practicality and genuine performance.
The 5008 is a pure family SUV. Unbeatable for practically, the 5008 is a 3008 up until the second row of seats. At that point, the designers have had enormous fun in creating a space that moulds to purpose. Three independent seats make up the middle row, with separate tray tables, under seat storage and window blinds. Despite the multi-function abilities of the middle row, they can be folded neigh-on flat, producing an echoing hall of a rear space should you need to move the bedroom furniture.
The 5008 enters a very crowded market place, rivalling the Honda CR-V and the Hyundai Santa Fe, yet will likely soon become the market leader. The sleek styling, taking the same smooth lines and rising side panels as its smaller sibling, the 3008, makes the 5008 really stand out. However, it is the interior that really makes the 5008 the family SUV of choice. Simple, comfortable and practical, with a clutter-free, spacious cabin. ‘Spacious’ really undersells the amount of room in the 5008. The two rows of seats, (the back row of which can be totally removed) are flush with room, whilst still leaving a genuine boot behind. The additional row of seats have not been crammed in; they have been given space of their own.
The 5008 comes in two models; the flagship 2.0 litre turbo diesel or the 1.6 litre petrol Allure model. The performance on both models is good, offering plenty of power and plenty of torque, meaning that they both handle well off road when called upon. However, as you would hope from a well-designed French SUV, the 5008 performs best when driven smoothly on the road, exactly as a practical family SUV should.
Being priced just above the 3008, the Peugeot 5008 offers exceptional value.
