Peugeot 2008 Crossover Review

peugeot_2008_qualityModelled on Peugeot’s well received 208, the 2008 is a practical, well built and economically sound family SUV. Designed to be highly useable, the 2008 Crossover is a remarkably good family car, highly adaptable and highly comfortable, even for extended drives. The comfort of the 2008 does take a little from the driving experience, but feeling the road at your fingertips is rarely the driving force behind the decision to buy a compact utility vehicle, and that is what the 2008 excels at being.

The choice of engine is important, and there are a good range to choose from. The 1.2 and 1.6 litre petrol engines are significantly different from one another, with the 1.2 not quite offering enough power to really satisfy. There are also two 1.6litre diesel engines, both of which perform well in the 2008, though for value, it is the lower of the two diesel specifications that provides the pick of the set ups.

peugeot_2008_body_coloured_detailsThe 2008 Crossover is a mini-estate, and Peugeot’s first real hatchback SUV combination, taking on the Nissan Juke with real aplomb. The 2008 is not a tall SUV, and as such, handles well, without any unnecessary or uncomfortable roll, even through tight corners. The additional weight over the front wheels mean that it is not the most responsive, but that is the compromise made for the additional comfort and usability afforded by a crossover vehicle. Then again, if you are looking for a vehicle tight and exciting through chicanes, you would not have read this far.

Comfortable and practical, the 2008 is a nice place to be. It also provides a genuine 50mpg in the real world, which is very good for a family SUV crossover, and is certainly not expensive, especially at the entry level petrol model. In fact, it is remarkably good value, and will continue to provide value post-sale.
